Cloud First

Our “Cloud First” strategy was designed to accelerate speed of delivery and to drive more value through technology to the Penn Community. Over the past two years cloud has increasingly become how we deliver IT.

Progress continued in FY19 as we moved 70TB of client storage to the cloud.   Portions of our IAM infrastructure have been moved to the cloud to improve availability in the event of on-campus incidents and to facilitate the operations of cloud-based applications such as WorkDay.  We are currently working to replicate PennGroups in the cloud, which is critical to providing person-level authorization for enterprise and local applications.

Penn continues to shift our applications from on-premise solutions to cloud-based solutions.  This year many implementations are underway, including WorkDay, Interfolio, Leepfrog for Catalog and Course Management, Novelutions for Conflict of Interest and International SOS which will replace the Global Activities Registry.  We expect to upgrade and move InfoEd to a vendor hosted solution in the coming fiscal year. In addition, we continue to improve cloud monitoring and automation as we rely more on cloud-based infrastructure.
